Maureen FitzSimons's early accomplishments in the performing arts, that is now known as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to be in being in the "child prodigy" category. But for a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended families, these traits came as a normal. Maureen came to this loving sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. She was raised by her parents as well as family members. Marguerita LIlburn FitzSimons, her mother. She was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin firm, as well as owned shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athlete at heart and enjoyed playing tough sporting games. Her ability to perform was the perfect match for her interest in sport. This is why she received almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances in her home country. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she continued to pursue her dream of opera and classical singing and theater.
